What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a comfortable, natural, altered state of mind which is simply a deep level of relaxation.  Although the word hypnosis is derived from the Greek 'hypnos', meaning to sleep, it is very different to the feeling of sleeping because we remain fully aware.  The conscious mind is relaxed, allowing access to the subconscious mind.  This is the part that controls our seemingly 'automatic' behaviours such as our heartbeat, breathing, and those car journeys we drive 'wtihout thinking about it'.  In hypnotherapy, we reprogram the subconscious mind to align with your conscious desires, resulting in the powerful combination of conscious and subconscious working together towards one goal.

It is important to understand that this is a completely natural state of mind in which you will be totally aware of what is happening.  I couldn't make you do or think anything that is against your will, your code of ethics or the best interests of your body.  You can choose to come back to normal conscious awareness at any time if you wish.

IMPORTANT - Hypnotherapy should not be used by people with epilepsy or psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia.  It is a complementary medicine that can be used alongside orthodox medicine and you should seek doctor's advice when using hypnotherapy for illnesses and injuries.
